The Magician's Daughter

The Magician's Daughter
Medium: digital painting
Here is the finished painting from this WIP: the-cynical-unicorn.deviantart…

Inspired by a scene in this fanfic: www.fanfiction.net/s/11005609/… . I decided to have a phoenix instead of constellations, because I thought it would be easier to visually understand (without context) a bird rather than floating pieces of light.

It's Rhys from The Two Princesses of Bamarre.

The Two Princesses of Bamarre

Addie and Meryl
Medium: digital painting
Rhys and Orn
Medium: digital painting

The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine has been one of my all-time favorite books ever since I first read it when I was 11 or 12. Everyone knows Ella Enchanted, but I think Two Princesses was much more emotionally intense, for a children's book. I think it would have made a fabulous Disney cartoon!

I enjoy doing "species-benders..?" on characters in books and movies, so here are my favorites as horses. Yeah, I totally gave them cutie marks like in MLP, and I don't care. I think they help tell about the characters in a very simple way. I'd like to think that at the end of the story, Addie's mark would change into a blossoming rose, rather than a rosebud. :) I also made Addie a more slender mare, as she was described as fine-boned compared to her robust sister.

Illustrative Portraits

Hey, y'all! I just finished two character portraits.

Title: Aerus Ayatomukoshio
Media: Photoshop paint

Aerus is one of my own characters. He's a Romulan from Star Trek. The gist of his story is that he defected from the Empire and joined the Federation, hence the melding of the two symbols in the background. If you're a true nerd, you know what I'm talking about. ;)
I'm well aware of the anotomical errors but seeing as I have more important things to work on, I may or may not get around to fixing this.

Title: Rhys
Media: Photoshop paint

This is my idea of Rhys from Gail Carson Levine's The Two Princesses of Bamarre. I always find it a little sad that he isn't on the cover, considering that he played such a large role in the story (and he's just awesome), so I decided to give him a little recognition.
Do you still wanna marry him, Allie?
